I cannot believe how quickly the weekend went yet how long ago Friday seems. Friday was an insanely busy day at work and I didn’t even get online to wish my boy a very happy birthday!! So Friday morning started with me waking up and showering then putting his gift together and bringing it to him to open in bed. I had got him concert tickets here, but wanted him to have something to open on the actual day so I did what my normal tradition is and got him a birthday outfit. I think he was really excited about the stuff, but he was more excited about when I surprised him when he got out of the shower with some Dunkin Donuts coffee and donuts. After work I went to the gym and then came home to get ready to go out, I finally let him know where we were going, Bistro Du Midi, and we were off.
I choose this place because I had gone here almost two years ago with one of my girlfriends, we both had a fantastic time and an amazing dinner. The view is of the Boston Common too so it feels very cozy.
Sadly I wasn’t as impressed this time, the service was slow and the food was just ok, it didn’t blow my mind. I was happy that they remembered to do something for his birthday, I had called that morning to talk to them about it, and they came through. The desserts were still as fantastic as I remember though!
I also love the floor to ceiling wine cellar! Yes please!
The next morning I got up and spent a little me time, first with a run where I had a fanatic view on part of it.
Then I went and got my toes done. After we had a quick lunch the boyfriend took me out to and then we headed on down to his families place for dinner and to go to Dave and Busters after. The boyfriend had a fantastic night and had an ear to ear grin on his face the whole time which I loved. The only time he got upset was when the party was over and everyone was going home. Sunday was for sure a lazy day, I quickly ran to the store to pick up a few things and then we hunkered on down. I decided to make some steak and cheese subs for lunch and they were a huge hit. I wish mine was a tad cheesier and a little bit of a spice in it but the boyfriend loved his and inhaled it.
- ¾ LB of Steak
- 2 Sub Rolls
- 5 Slices of American Cheese
- Salt and Pepper
Get your grill or grill pan going and make sure it is high heat. Salt and pepper steak and then put on grill, don’t touch it for three minutes and then with tongs move it 45 degrees to get the diamond pattern for another three minutes. Flip and do the same thing on the other side for a total of 12 minutes of cooking. Take the meat off and let it rest for at least 5 minutes to let the juices redistribute back into the meat.
Slice it thinly (some people cut it into chunks at this part, but I prefer it thinly sliced so it is easy to bite through) and then heat up a nonstick fying pan. Put half the steak in the shape of the bun down, and then put two and a half slices of cheese on top. Cover with a lid until the cheese melts, which should take no more than a minute or two. With a long spatula pick it up and put it in the sub roll. Serve right away.
I ended the night by having some pumpkin ice cream with pumpkin granola. It was phenomenal!
